What is a Water-Powered Sump Pump?
Some sump pumps rely on batteries, but ours rely on your municipal water system. When your sump pit gets full of water, it triggers the pump to open and get a supply of fresh water. It accelerates this water through a jet, creating a pressure differential.
This pressure pulls the water out of your sump tank. It empties into a pipe that removes it from your home. Thus, you have the emptying power you need without relying on electricity or battery power.
How Does a Water-Powered Sump Pump Work?
Water-powered sump pumps rely on physics to work. Your sump tank has a float in it. When the water levels get high enough that that float rises, it triggers a valve opening in the top of the sump pit.
That valve brings in water, which powers the pump ejector. The powerful suction it creates is a function of physics, too. It relies on the Venturi Principle to create enough suction to pull all of the water out of the sump pit.
What are the Benefits of a Water Jet Sump Pump?
People love water jet sump pumps because they don’t require much maintenance. Since you don’t have to change batteries or check electrical connections, you can pretty much get it installed, then forget about it.
We do recommend testing your pump by running it through an entire cycle at least once or twice a year. Fill up your sump pit until the float rises, then let the pump empty the tank entirely. This keeps it in good shape and lets you know if there’s a problem you need to address.
