It’s cold outside, so you need to turn the heat on! But what do you do if your Manassas furnace won’t turn on?
It’s easy to panic when this happens, but do not worry. Instead, follow this checklist to see if you can locate the issue and get it back on quickly. Oftentimes, our customers in Manassas end up figuring out the issue before ever needing to call for our help!
However, if these don’t solve your problem, give the Manassas HVAC pros at Turner’s Service Company a call! We’ll get your heat back on in no time!
Check If The Power Is On
There are two places to check to see if your furnace has power. First, make sure that the power switch near the unit is not switched to “off”. This could happen accidentally. If the power switch is on, next check your circuit breaker or fuse box to make sure the furnace circuit is also on.
Test Out The Thermostat
Next, try testing your thermostat. First of all, make sure that it’s on and that the batteries are still working. If it’s a programmable model, make sure that the system is still set up and functioning. Finally, turn it up to make sure that the heat is actually turning to what the thermostat is set at.
Inspect The Furnace’s Drain Pan
The drain pan is where all the moisture from your HVAC system is collected. It should empty on its own, but if it does not, the system may shutdown to avoid flooding. Check to see if the drain pan is full of water, if the drain is clear, and if the trigger mechanism is working.
Make Sure You Have Fuel
Check your property’s gas or oil line. Make sure that everything is on the “on” position and see if the other appliances that rely on the fuel source are working. If they are not, contact your local utility company. If they are, it’s likely a furnace issue.
Look At The Pilot Light
Make sure that the pilot light is on and looks normal and has a typical flame. If the pilot light is a strange color or there is no light, you can relight it yourself to get it started again. Or, Turner’s Service Company is happy to come do it for you.
